COMMITTEE CHAIRS NEEDED
The PTA needs you! We are looking for leaders to help us run programs and plan events! No experience is necessary and the board promises full support, training, a notebook of what has been done in the past, access to past chairs and lots of enthusiasm. If you have any questions, please contact Kristen Allen-Bentsen at kallenbentsen@hotmail.com or 425.427.6487 or Maria Nelson at nelsorm@comcast.net or 222.3977.
Community Outreach: Do you have a heart for giving? Like to help those in need? Help IVE give back to the community by planning and executing 3 or 4 giving campaigns during the year. Includes food drive, giving tree etc. (Year Long)
Cookie Dough/Gift Wrap: We work with a fabulous representative from Innisbrook who really helps you with every step of this process. Involves attending kick-off meeting, advertising our fundraising campaign, getting the kids excited, collecting money and distributing product. (Fall Only)
Directory: Help us put together our fabulous PTA Directory. Are you good at layout? Keyboarding skills? We need you! (Fall Only)
Eager Reader: 26 week volunteer run PTA program to encourage reading. Responsibilities include creating and distributing tally forms, compute and award prizes from tally forms (with a committee), purchase and distribute prizes and books. Skill sets needed: good organizational skills, enthusiasm for kids and reading and attention to detail. The program is really well put together and ready for someone to step into. The transition will be seamless! (Year Long)
Hospitality*: This person purchases (with PTA monies) gifts for people we need to thank, handles gifts for staff for babies, hardships, sicknesses and runs a committee (hospitality bakers) to provide food for PTA meetings and other special events. If you are a party planner, and great shopper, this is the job for you! (Year Long)
Labels for Education: Work with the on-line program Labels for Education to create and run a program at IVE to collect labels and earn PE equipment and monies from companies. Need organization, some creative ideas for getting kids to clip and bring in coupons and tally skills. (You can decide to do a focused campaign or a year-long collection).
Legislation*: If you have the 411 on what’s happening in the legislature and if educational issues get you excited, this is the perfect job for you! Keep yourself up to date on what’s happening regionally and report back to the PTA each month. There is a ton of support at the council level for a person in this position as Issaquah is quite active and vocal in support of legislation that is good for kids. (Year Long)
Walk-A-Thon: The Walk-A-Thon is our most important fundraiser and takes place in the spring. The leader who takes on this job needs to have the vision to put together a top notch team to advertise, plan and execute the 09 WAT. This year we have stepped away from prizes which should ease the burden of this team. Ideally, this is a co-chaired position. (February – June)
Outdoor Beautification: Do you have a green thumb? Can you work on projects on a large scale? Do you love being out of doors? This is the perfect job for you! Help keep IVE looking great on the outside. In the past, this committee has planned a flower planting, has spread bark dust, pulled weeds, helped with the outdoor learning areas, planted flower boxes etc. (Mostly spring…flexible)
Popcorn: This committee chair position involves running our popular Friday popcorn program. We have lots of moms and dads willing to pop so your job would be to create and maintain a schedule, send reminders, train poppers (we can provide training for you on the machine if you haven’t popped before), collecting and depositing money and maintaining supplies. (Year Long)
Ice Cream Social: This person reserves the cafeteria, sets up, buys the supplies and puts a team together to execute our back-to-school ice cream social. (September only)
Room Parent Coordinator*: This person is our point person, largely on email, but some phone tree and print too, between the PTA board and the room moms for each class. They help us find volunteers for salmon days parking, staff appreciation and more! Can be done on your time, at your computer! (Year Long)
Reflections: Reflections is a national arts contest sponsored by the PTA. This committee chair plans and executes our Reflections program at IVE. Most of the registration materials are provided by the PTA council so this person makes copies and distributes, advertises, hosts art at lunch ( or maybe even art after school or before school), collects entries, finds judges and hosts a judging. In the recent past our Reflections chairs have worked with our Art Docent Chair to put on a Hands-On-Art/Reflections Reception at the end of November. (October and November)
Salmon Days Parking: Salmon Days weekend can mean some good money for our PTA. We host a parking lot in our parking lot and on our field. Traditionally, this has been a dad’s event, and this committee chair rounds up a volunteer schedule of dads but also is there in the morning and evening to open and close the event. (September for planning and first weekend of October for execution)
Science Fair: The science fair takes place the last Thursday and Friday in March. The chairs of this committee (and their committee) work to create the science fair forms, advertise the upcoming science fair, provide classroom demonstrations, collect forms, order and distribute boards, line up the facility use, find volunteer evaluators and hosts for the classroom tours and host the evening science fair open house. (December – March)
Staff Appreciation Lunches: This person plans the menu (which goes onto our website) advertises for volunteers to bring food and finds people to host (set up and clean up) each month. Ideally, we will get our room parents to help with their assigned month. (Year Long but most of the planning can be done before school starts or even school ends!)
Staff Appreciation Week Chairs: Staff Appreciation Week is the first full week of May. This person leads a team of creative people to think of ways we can tell our teachers how much we love them. This includes buying gifts, writing cards, planning special events (like raffles), and working with room parents toward a gift for classroom teachers. (April – first week of May)
Vision and Hearing: This person’s job is two fold. First of all, work with the school nurse to determine how many volunteers are needed for vision and hearing day and then find, remind and organize them on the day of. Second of all, work with hospitality to provide a lunch for volunteers. (Usually 1 day in October or November)
Culture Night: Chair plans and executes culture night. Works to create sub-committees of individual cultures puts together a performance section, works with art docents to have an art section. Advertises, recruits and organizes.
*We would love to have this person sit on the board of directors which means one extra meeting a month (not required but wanted J )

Thanks! Remember: It’s all about the kids! Another Successful Year of Eager Reader Thank you to the generous IVE PTA for another great year of the Eager Reader program. This 26 week voluntary program had more than half the school participate. With the three book awards this year we gave away more than 400 books. It was fun to see the kids excitedly pick out their favorites. This program could not have been the great success it was without the help of our fabulous volunteers. They would donate their time to fill out all tally sheets, help distribute books to kids, help buy books and administer the program. A huge thank you to Teri Schaengold, Michelle Lancaster, Leah Gibson, Kim Nardi, Jodi Boatright, Katie Milne, Jennifer Harrison, Colleen Gurkin, Annie Graber, Ana Jimenez-Inman, and Debra Reynolds. An extra special thank you to Kimberly Murphy, the Eager Reader Co-Chair who works so hard. Thank You! Thank you to all the teachers for supporting this program. As we know, the more kids read, the better it is for everyone! Huge congratulations to our IVE Top Readers for 2007-2008, Arron Wray a 4th grader took top honors, followed by Rachel McInnes in 2nd grade. Arron read over 195 hours which means he was reading over an hour a day for 26 weeks. Awesome! The top grade winners were also very impressive: Kindergarten-Luca Nardi All of our winners listed here won a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble so they can pick out any book they want. As we finish the year, it’s a great time to think about how you want to be involved for next year. The Eager Reader program would love to have your help. The committee meets once a month, and a fun and great way to meet people. Think about being the volunteer for your child’s class next year. Have a great summer! Onti Rosen Eager Reader Co-Chair Popcorn Help Needed Attention IVE parents! Popcorn Fridays need your help. We are extremely low on volunteers for the end of the year! If you haven't volunteered yet this year please consider helping on one remaining school year Friday from 10:30-12:30. Your kids will love to see you helping with this fun Friday tradition. We also need someone to chair the Popcorn Committee for the 08-09 School Year. Please contact Jackie Goree (gorees@comcast.net) or Jennifer Jorgensen (jennyjorgensen@comcast.net) if you can help! " |
